New Google Analytics UI – it’s time to move
The new version of the Google Analytics UI has been available for 6 months now, and will replace the old version for everyone by the end of January 2012.
‏ f you haven’t yet switched to the new version, now is the time to start. We dedicate part of this Seperia Analytics Monthly issue to present some of the new features available via the new Google Analytics version.

Google Analytics

Flow Visualization reports
A new set of visualization reports is available in the new Google Analytics: ‏The Visitor Flow report shows detailed navigation through the website (improved “Navigation Summary” report, & the Goal Flow report is an improvement on the “Funnel Visualization” report . The main advantages of these new reports, aside from the smooth visual representation, are:

  • Navigation and funnel reports can now be segmented by traffic-source, country, or any other dimension or advanced segment.
  • The Goal Flow report works for backwards data (not restricted by when the goal funnel was created).

There’s much insight to be gained from these new reports, and we recommend looking into them. They reports can be found under:

  • Standard Reporting tab Visitors Visitors Flow
  • Standard Reporting tab Conversions Goals Goal Flow

Please note that these reports are still rolling out, and should be available in all accounts within a few weeks.

Flow Visualization

Real-Time view of website activity
A new set of reports shows the number of visitors that are on the site right now, segmented by traffic source, location, or pages that they are on.
‏This can be useful when immediate actions can be taken in response to performance of a new advertising or PR campaign that just launched, or a modified page in the funnel.
‏The reports can be found under:
‏Home tab Real Time (beta)
‏Please note that these reports are still rolling out (so might not be available in all account just yet). Note, also, that the Real-Time reports do not work for filtered profiles at this stage.

New SSL search – keywords missing from reports

Google Analytics has started rolling out SSL (encrypted) search for users logged in to their Google accoumt. This means that from now on, Google searches by logged-in users will be done on https://google.com.
‏What this means for SEO’s and Google Analytics users: GA keywords data for organic searches from logged-in users will be missing, and appear in reports as “(not provided)”. This typically affects under 10% of search data, but expected to increase as SSL search continues to rolls out in the coming weeks. ‏Please note that this doesn’t affect paid search data. Also, local Google search engines (google.co.il, google.co.uk, etc.) are not affected yet, as SSL search is et to roll out in these domains in the next few months.
‏What this means for SEO’s‏
SEOs won’t get a full picture of keywords driving traffic to their site. When calculating brand vs. non-brand traffic, you may want to use this simple method for estimating the right numbers after taking into account the effect of the missing keywords.

SSL search

Distorted Hebrew keywords in Organic Keyword Reports

Since the move to SSL search, many Hebrew search terms appear in their ASCII code representation (looking something like this: %d6%91%d9%a1%d7).
‏This seems to be a bug, and we are waiting for Google who are working to resolve this.
‏If you’d like to receive an update upon resolution (or other progress), please reply to this email and we’ll be sure to update you on this issue.

SSL search

Bye-bye for Now
‏We hope that you found this first issue of the Seperia Analytics Newsletter useful. Please feel free to send us feedback on what you’d like to see more of, in the next issues.

Best regards,

Seperia
